Despite the current lockdown affecting sports worldwide, LeBron James is determined to stay ahead of the competition. The Los Angeles Lakers’ star has been putting in the work this week to ensure he stays in top shape when the NBA season resumes. Like many elite athletes, James is following a strict personal training regimen while staying at home to maintain his peak performance levels.
During the lockdown, NBA all-star LeBron James has been pushing himself to the max with intense training sessions for the LA Lakers.
Wincing in discomfort, the 35-year-old Lakers player pushed through a challenging set of workouts.
After that, James headed over to the weight area to focus on strengthening his upper body and core muscles.
However, when he turned to social media, the basketball great wanted to demonstrate the value of hard work to his 63 million Instagram followers. He shared videos of himself on Instagram, shirtless and sweating, as he worked with resistance cables in his garden, then moved on to weight training to strengthen his core and upper body. In the caption, James encouraged his followers to join him in striving for greatness. Later that evening, he shared a touching moment with fans by posting old footage of himself playing with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, evoking nostalgia and emotion in many.
Later that evening, James settled in to watch some nostalgic footage from the 2008 Olympic Games. He captured the moments on video, reliving the time when he and Bryant proudly represented the United States in the gold medal match against Spain in Beijing.
As the footage played, James couldn’t help but focus on the intense action as the US team took the lead. He vividly remembered the moment when he pulled Bryant into a heartfelt embrace after a game-changing basket.
However, the mood turned somber as James recalled the tragic helicopter crash on January 26 in Calabasas, California, which took the lives of Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others.
In the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the NBA made an announcement that they had come to an agreement with the National Basketball Players Association to withhold 25% of each player’s salary starting from May 15 due to the suspension of the league. This agreement allowed for a gradual reduction in player salaries in the event of a ‘force majeure’ circumstance, such as the current pandemic, potentially leading to the cancellation of the rest of the regular season.
Fans were left emotional as James honored the memory of Kobe Bryant during his celebration. According to ESPN, the money will be set aside in escrow and returned to players if all the remaining regular season games are played. If only a portion of the season is completed, players will receive a pro-rated amount based on the number of games played. ESPN also reported that salary cuts will extend into the first two months of the 2020-21 NBA season. The NBA has been on hold since March 11, and there is no clear indication of when it will resume.
