A couple who are obsessed with rabbits have turned their backyard into a magical rabbit haven. Emma Hartshorne, 46, and Wayne Kenward, 50, from Stratford-Upon-Avon in Warwickshire, have spared no expense in spoiling their 30 fluffy bunnies. They have invested heavily in creating an Alice In Wonderland-themed paradise for their beloved pets, including a custom-made treehouse with its own bar. Emma even hired a specialist company to build a maze in the shape of a giant rabbit.
After hours of hard work, 120 meters of pipe, and £4,000 spent, Emma and Wayne’s pampered bunnies finally got to explore their new playground. The herd, made up of three distinct groups, happily frolicked in the new run without any confrontations or fights. Emma exclaimed, “They are absolutely loving it! The new setup allows all of them to play together without any issues.
Emma Hartshorne, aged 46, and Wayne Kenward, aged 50, residing in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, have dedicated a significant amount of money towards creating a fun and exciting rabbit haven in their garden.
Emma and Wayne were adamant about creating a special rabbit playground for their beloved 30 pets.
Emma and Wayne’s pet rabbit enjoys the custom-made rabbit paradise they built. From a treehouse to individual hutches, the couple crafted everything themselves using reclaimed materials, except for a protective fence to keep out foxes. Emma mentioned that every feature in the garden, including the rabbit maze and mound, were built by her for free. The couple even constructed a log cabin and hutches on their own. The only thing they didn’t build was the black prison fencing to deter predators, which was a bit pricier compared to the rest of the garden.
Enma has constructed a cool treehouse for the bunnies to chill in, equipped with their very own mini-bar.
The couple has designated four of their bunnies to join them inside the house for TV time, while the others stay outdoors. Emma believes the effort is worth it because of the happiness their pets bring.
To Emma, the bunnies are just as entertaining as cats and dogs, always bringing joy and laughter. She explains that their pets are like humans in needing variety to prevent boredom, so they make sure to keep them entertained.
While it would be ideal to have all their rabbits indoors watching TV, the couple limits it to four to avoid chaos. Despite this, they enjoy the company of their furry friends both inside and out.
The couple actively seeks out rabbits in need of homes, committed to providing them with a life full of love and care.
Despite having a large number of rabbits, Emma mentioned that taking care of them doesn’t take up much of her time. Emma and Wayne, who owns his own IT company, have slowly built up a small farm at their country home. While they also care for chickens, horses, and even alpacas, it’s their 23 bunnies that truly capture their hearts and attention.
Emma shared, “Watching their unique personalities emerge as they settle in is truly amazing. Spending more time with them builds trust and deepens our bond.” She added, “Having rabbits indoors allows us to observe them more closely. Unlike the other bunnies, the four special ones in our house have free rein and are always around in the evenings, making them even more precious to us.”

Emma believes that rabbits have a lot of character and enjoy activities like watching TV and chasing after her for toast.
‘If you offer tea and toast in the morning, they will follow you up the stairs for a nibble. They are quite amusing,’ she chuckled.
For those interested in having rabbits as pets, she reassures that a large garden is not a must.
“You don’t need a massive backyard to create a space where rabbits can explore and play. Hopefully, this will inspire others to showcase their quirky personalities,” she added.
“One of them lets out a big sigh of satisfaction when she exits the treehouse, showing how content she is. It’s truly heartwarming to witness,” she shared.
“We are thrilled with the outcome and now our goal is to rescue as many rabbits as possible,” she concluded with a smile.
The pair is looking forward to using their newly constructed rabbit play area to help save additional abandoned bunnies.
The couple have revamped the garden of their Warwickshire residence to create a space suitable for their beloved furry companions. “We recently welcomed eight new additions who are currently in quarantine until they receive their second round of vaccinations,” they shared. “While their previous living conditions weren’t terrible, we can provide them with better care and more room to roam.”
Emma emphasized that despite the work involved in constructing a top-notch sanctuary for numerous rescued rabbits, caring for 30 of them is not as demanding as one might assume.
Emma disclosed that whenever one of the rabbits jumps out of the tree house, it always lets out a satisfied sigh.
A fun-loving duo: The bunnies have lots of room to hop around thanks to their devoted owners. In response to people thinking it’s a hassle, the owner explains that taking care of them doesn’t require much time – just 10 or 15 minutes each day. Once a week, she spends about three hours washing the garden to ensure they have clean grass. When new, grumpy rabbits arrive, the owner patiently spends time gaining their trust. The most time-consuming task? Getting them comfortable with having their nails trimmed.
Emma Hartshorne, aged 46, and Wayne Kenward, aged 50, have splurged a hefty amount on spoiling their collection of 30 adorable bunnies.
