Aussie Millennial Ignites Discussion by Sharing Eye-Popping Tattoo Expenses: ‘Could’ve Bought a House!’

Recently, a young Australian man shared that he has invested approximately $35,000 in adorning his body with tattoos. Tattoo artist Cain Simmons had a chat with his client James outside Broadway Tattoo and Body Piercing in Sydney, asking him about the total cost of his tattoos. James nonchalantly replied, “All in all, around $30 to $35 grand. It may seem like a lot, but you have to shell out that money for top-notch tattoos.” He further recommended that those thinking of getting inked should be willing to pay the price instead of opting for cheaper options in Bali.

James, a resident of Sydney, shared that he has invested around $30,000 to $35,000 in his collection of tattoos. He believes in quality over quantity, opting to spend more money for permanent tattoos rather than getting cheap ones in Bali that fade quickly. His body is adorned with sleeve tattoos on both arms, as well as ink on his right leg, back, chest, and neck.

It took James about two years to complete all his tattoos, with a year and a half dedicated to his arm sleeves, chest, and back. He managed to do his leg and other smaller tattoos in just six months. He is not done yet, as he plans to add more tattoos in the future. Currently, he is getting work done on the inside of his chest, with plans to finish his left side soon to complete his tattoo journey.

The 21-year-old sports tattoos on various parts of his body, including his neck, chest, back, and right leg, along with sleeve tattoos on both arms. He has plans to add more ink in the future. Simmons shared that he and the young man have formed a strong friendship over time.

About a year and a half ago, James approached Simmons with a desire to get heavily tattooed, starting from having no upper body tattoos. Little did Simmons know at the time that James aimed to have his entire upper body covered by the age of 25. Reflecting on their journey, Simmons expressed how they have evolved from a client-artist relationship to a brotherhood.

Some Australians expressed surprise at the significant amount of money the young man has spent on tattoos, suggesting that he should have saved the funds instead. Despite the criticism, others defended the quality of tattoo work in Bali, pointing out that there are reputable studios with talented artists in the area. They shared personal experiences of receiving tattoos in both Bali and Australia, with some claiming that their Bali tattoos have held up better over time.

The price of a tattoo can vary greatly depending on several factors such as the artist’s skill level, the intricacy of the design, the size of the tattoo, and its placement on the body.
